The financial reports of three major cruise lines show healthy earnings for those at the helm, with Frank Del Rio president and CEO of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, taking home the bounty with just under US $32 million ($41.7 million) including salary, stock and option awards and other compensations.

Arnold Donald, president and CEO of Carnival Corporation, was paid just over $9.3 million ($12 million CAD). 

Richard Fain, Chairman and CEO of Royal Caribbean Cruises made $9.4 million $12.2 million CAD). 

Cat in the hat

The Nikolay Chernyshevsky cruise ship sails between the cities of Moscow and St Petersburg. Since 2008 the captain has been Vladimir Kotin who is assisted by Sailor. 

Sailor is an exotic short-hair cat who takes the midnight to 4:00 am shift, though has been known for excessive yawning stretching and napping. No matter, he looks good in his uniform and has earned his own assistant who keeps him company.

Three more for Royal Caribbean 

Within days of the inaugural sailing of Royal Caribbean’s Harmony of the Seas, the cruise line has announced plans for another Oasis class ship. There is no mention of the size of the new vessel, which will follow sisters Harmony of the Seas, Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas. 

Two more Edge Class ships are marked for the Celebrity Cruise brand in addition to the first two, which will begin service in 2018 and 2020. 

Disney back to NYC 

Disney Cruise Line will return to New York with sailings to the Bahamas and the Canadian coast – including a new seven-night Canada cruise. San Diego will serve as a home-port with cruises to Mexico, and Galveston will again be a homeport with sailings to the Caribbean and Bahamas starting the fall of 2017. 

Another American Constellation 

American Cruise Lines’ new ship will be named American Constellation, inspired by a series of American ships of the same name with honoured histories. The original US Naval American Constellation of 1797 and American Cruise Lines’ newest ship were both built in Maryland shipyards. 

American Constellation will leave for its first cruise from Constellation Pier next to where the retired USS Constellation is docked. 

The ocean capable vessel with full active wing stabilization will have capacity for approximately 170 guests. Staterooms will have private balconies and room service.
