Corfu's Old Town seemed to change at every turn. Four centuries of Venetian rule had left their mark on tall pastel walls, stone arches, and winding lanes, while island life carried on around us. Soon, it was the smallest details holding our gaze: timeworn pavers underfoot, cats lazing in the sun, the cool shade of an olive tree, and those brief stolen glimpses of daily life behind each façade.

From Dubrovnik's city walls, the view came together in layers: pale stone, red roofs, bell towers, then the Adriatic stretching beyond them all. As we followed the ramparts, our focus moved between the city life held within the walls and the boats darting on the open sea outside them. Here, history wasn’t preserved behind glass – it was all around us, still very much alive.

Long before the town itself came into view, the beautiful Bay of Kotor had our full attention. We watched from our balcony as mountains rose sheer from the water and small villages gathered along the shore. On land, the scale changed. We passed through the Sea Gate into a labyrinth of narrow lanes and small sunlit squares. Yet our gaze was always pulled back to the peaks towering silent and still above us.
