“Very Poor Service - Needs Lots of Improvements”

I have been to 3 stars and 5 starts hotels all over Cuba. This hotel needs a lot of improvements in all areas from costumer service to food and so on. What really struck me the most was the way the front desk was scamming costumers, when I tried to pay with my VISA card there was never any connection so I would pay cash, they provided me with a hand written receipt. I later learned from a reception employee that it is a trick they use to pocket the money, indeed when I checked out I had 31 dollars charged to my room, I told them that I had no cash left and suddenly there was a connection. I was truly disappointed with the service, I know it did not cost very much but I have been to the same 3 starts and the service is far better than this place. I would not recommend

The strong points The beaches and nightly entertainment. The weak points Front desk, food, rooms, costumer service.

“Disappointed”

The hotel for the quality vs price is great. This was not the first time at this hotel, and I was disappointed with the cubains staying at the hotel. They have superman bladders to be able to drink and eat in the pool all day without going to the washroom. We were stopped from bring food to the beach but they are not. The last saturday swiming in the ocean shit then later sanitary napkin floated by us. Poor people everywhere bumming money. I guess you pay for what you get.

The strong points we were able to upgrade room for a better service. The weak points They should clean the beach and keep the locals out.

“Club Amigo”

good resort, recommend the villas, larger rooms, close to pool and snack bar. Clean resort, good food with a large selection. The only thing I didn't like was the location, it was very isolated and would have preferred to be in a location that was closer to town. Other than that it was a great stay.

The strong points villa was large, very clean room and resort, food was great The weak points isolated would prefer to be closer to town. A lot of partying in the main hotel but villa section was very quiet

“Poorly trained hotel staff”

one hell of an experience why?? I travel with my wife who is a Canadian citizen but born in cuba. in several occasions we experienced severe discrimination on the part of Cuban staff towards my Cuban wife. the first thing she was told is that Cubans have to wait for service and at the end we where denied a room because we asked for the room several times through out the day. I could go on with unpleasant experiences we will never go back there and I am sure many other Cubans will have similar discriminatory experiences

The strong points the sun The weak points quality

“Great Place If Nightlife Isn't Important”

Not a lot of nightlife here, the show at 10 and then the 24 hour bar. There is a disco but the strobe lights gave me a headache. The food is passable, and only that. Exactly the same thing on buffet each day, even the soup. A la cartes are good but you only get two. The drink selection depends on which bar you're at. Best drinks at Pirate bar on beach. The rooms.. pay a little more and stay in the Bungelows, close to everything. We stayed in the Guadalavaca hotel which is quite old and in bad need of refurbishing, plus it is quite far from restaurants (this is the standard room). The Villas are the most updated but a little bit away from things. The Tropical rooms are at the Atlantico, which is the main section, however, the elevator doesn't always work. This resort is actually 4 sections, each has their own pool and bar. The 24 hour bar is located in the Villas. The bank is located in the Bungelows, and most shows are here as well. Swim up bars at Atlantico and Bungelows. Take Canadian currency and change either at airport coming in or at resort. Pools are great, beaches are awesome, staff are hit and miss. Great place for a relaxing vacation with early bed times if you can get it for a good price. One hour from airport.

The strong points Great beaches, nice pools The weak points Nowhere to go and not much nightlife. Get the right room for your comfort. Beach is open to anyone and crowded with Cubans.

“Good Vacation”

Standard room in older section was very basic. Upgraded to average. Villas are best. Hotel is older but has a friendly village complex. Very popular.Food ok. Service ok. Entertainment ok. People very friendly. Pools, beach and local area great.

The strong points Choice of 3 pools. The weak points Reception slow due high volume. Worse at weekend with locals influx.

“Hillbilly Hotel”

Good food and service tired room don't book the barracks nice pools except Atlántico to many drunks and fights lots of domestic squabbles beggar's on the beach starting to remind me of D.R. beds comfortable biggest problem was the other tourists was like a scene from animal house @ the 24 hr snack bar late at night and early in the morning as well as the swim up bar in Atlántico

The strong points food service cleanliness grounds The weak points over serving Atlántico pool scum around water line not a place for kids

“Club Amigo”

I have been to Club Amigo many times . I've had good and bad experiences but I go back because I have made friends there and go to see them . Last year I was very disappointed as we stayed in the hotel and had cold showers every day ! This year we stayed in the Villas and had hot water every day but the first morning we showered we had no towels to dry off with ! We called the front desk and they never brought towels ! Luckily I always take my own beach towels ! I will not use their towels because one year someone stole our towels and it cost me $40 . It was also very disappointing because there was no vodka in the hotel and no bottled water in the store . And I will never be happy as to how slow the bank is . Be prepared to waste your first day of vacation changing your money ! I have stood in line for an hour only to find out they have run out of money . But if you go there and love it you prepare yourself for these inconviences . They did improve and we were able to get two room keys for the very first time . Also we had to check out at noon and weren't picked up until 5:30 and of course every time we needed to get to our luggage the bell boy was no where to be found ! I tried to buy extra time on the room and after three times of asking and told to come back was finally told no ! After staying at a 5 star in Mexico recently you realize what a difference good service makes for your holiday experience . I'm tempted to upgrade to a 5 star in Cuba and see if it's better !

The strong points Beaches , staff are awesome . They remember you year after year and become friends . Craft market next to the hotel is excellent for shopping for gifts back home The weak points Bank painfully slow, no wi fi, shortages of water, vodka etc .
