“First vacation ever”

The rooms were basic but clean in the quiet area. Our shower pressure was fantastic but a lot of guests said they had a trickle. Our mattress however was terrible. Good food at the buffets, something for everyone there. But at lunch time do yourself a favour and go to the ocean snack bar...our favourite by far.

The strong points The food was fantastic, both at the a la carts and the buffet. However book your a la carts as soon as possible otherwise you will be stuck with the buffet. The weak points Unfortunately the beach although beautiful and we'll stocked with chairs, was just too full with vendors constantly harassing you.

“VH Ventana 3 stars not 4 ”

Hotel was nice and clean but way too many negatives for us to ever return. We purchased the privilege pkg for premium drinks and free wifi and both were a scam. Only a few premium drinks were include then their was a list of those you had to pay for.We always upgrade to premium drinks when possible but it always includes all premium drinks not a chosen few. The wifi was terrible it dropped all the time in less it was 5am to 7am when people were sleeping. But the worst is the pool,it is way too small for the amount of people and if you wanted a chair by the pool with an umbrella you needed to be up at 4.30 in the morning to save them. After 5 am you were out of luck all day. We are early risers so not usually a problem getting chairs but 4.30 am was outrageous. Ocean was not very nice and so windy not comfortable. Premium lounge chairs at the ocean were ratty looking and so was all furniture in the premium lounge. The a la carte's were good but the buffet service was the worse I've ever encountered tables were never set you had to scrounge around to find cutlery and napkins. Trying to get water or coffee was like pulling teeth never seen that at any resort i have ever been to. Some may find all this acceptable but not us. We travel 2 times a year to mostly 4 and 5 star resorts it may sound like I'm picky but I am not. There were 8 of us and none of us would ever return. Save your money go elsewhere.

The strong points The food at the beach restaurant was good at lunch The weak points Premium service was a waste of money

“Travelling with a toddler”

The hotel itself was fine and the staff were great whether or not you provided extra tips. I only had the opportunity to enjoy one a la carte restaurant because I could only get bookings the day I would have been departing; book the day that you arrive. The food in general had some variety and the fresh fruits were very sweet and nice. Unfortunately, all restaurants and snack bars are closed from 5:00-6:30, so if you are travelling with a little one, make sure to acquire snacks beforehand. In addition there is a lack of milk available from the stores, so make sure to bring formula to supplement and diapers. Also, bring beach toys and inflatables for the baby, but if missed you can purchase nearby. There is a small mall nearby with several cambios, stores for snacks and souveniers. It is very easy to get CDN cash converted to Pesos. The hotel rate was slightly lower than other rates. There is also a car rental place (budget) nearby if you choose to rent a car. Be warned that the gas must be on FULL when returned otherwise the cost is expensive. If you are not a beach person, then make sure to bring some extra money to do tours; the hotel has reps on site to organize everything you need. Overall impression - good service, kids shows at night were a little repetitive, but the nighttime show changed. The pool also seemed to close at sundown. A plus, si that they had free WIFI in the lobby area. Unfortunately, I was unable to connect.

The strong points Nice pool and beach. Good daytime activities and ability to wander off the resort. Food was acceptable and varied. The weak points No swimming past dark. Closure of all restaurants between 5-6:30. Little to do on the resort between nightfall and nightly entertainment.

“Jan 2014”

The staff at the hotel went out of their way to be friendly at all times. The hotel is older but mostly clean in the rooms. The toilet facilities at the beach need serious upgrading to keep up with the amount of guests.

The strong points Specialty restaurants were awesome. short order cooks in the morning excellent. The weak points Food in the buffet consistently lukewarm or cold

“Do not waste your money.”

This is a typical all-in, 80's-90's style, party time, frat boy operation. The hotel is tired, the staff try hard to entertain but quite frankly just saying "Hola" every minute does not always serve patrons needs when the staff really don't care. My wife desperately needed some feminine products so I asked at the front desk and the young lady casually told me that I will have to wait for the store to open at 9:00 AM another 2 hours. WOW.... A 4.5 star hotel and they don't have a spare tampon at the front desk for emergency purposes? The beach is a jungle, we gave up after 2 days due to the annoying, persistent beach vendors, they actually woke me up several times to ask if I want to buy. So my advice, if you are going to the DR to enjoy the beach, do not choose this resort. The food choices were great, the only problem is we got food poisoning on day three right through to the end of our stay, as did many other people. Apparently the parasite is well known and it is so bad. We were disgusted to see the young female prostitutes ( at least 5) picking up dirty old guys/guests and staying with them, coming down for breakfast before hooking the next guy. The staff were well aware of this and even encouraged it. They all knew these girls and made sure they were served and fed at meal times while chaperoned by their Elderly Johns. We did not expect to be visiting a brothel..... In a nutshell, the hotel is garbage, the food is dangerous, and the staff do not have a clue or do not give a hoot about the patrons other than if you are going to give them money/tips. We purchased an excursion on day two and the Westjet rep. Told us it would be one price, when we got home it turned out to be much more, we are presently dealing with our credit card company to try and resolve the matter. DO NOT PAY WITH CREDIT CARD, THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF. The local reps for the tour companies such as Westjet etc. will try to convince you that they offer the safest tours, insurance etc. this is BS, it is all about money. We will NOT be going back, what a waste of our time and money. Dirty, Unhealthy, Disgusting. Our advice, go to Cuba, or Florida, same weather, safer, same price. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THIS HOTEL, YOU WILL BE DISSAPOINTED.

The strong points Secure location The weak points Hotel

“Great time!”

The staff always cared and were happy to help, check-in was a breeze, rooms were comfortable and great AC (could use drawers for unpacking), loved the a'la cartes (especially the Italian)

The strong points -close to airport for quick transport -great food -bartenders were awesome -2 min walk to mall for shopping needs -quiet pool with no kids The weak points -lots of people bother you on the beach -no onsite disco -super busy on weekends

“VH Gran Ventana”

Great location; housekeeping and restaurant staff are so wonderful; our room was always clean and what really amazed us is that we did not rent a safe box (not that I am recommending this), yet our valuable personal stuff were left untouched; Great nightly entertainment, kudos to the emcees who always made us laugh; Seafood a la carte was fantastic.

The strong points Very good price with the quality of service; great location of hotel; beaches with white sand are so clean and lots of shades/trees alongside; night activities are superb The weak points Internet access - very slow.

“Grand Ventana”

Decent hotel, but be careful in June and summer months as many locals come to the hotel during the weekends and they take over the resort and don't let you relax.

The strong points beach, drinks The weak points food, rooms, bathrooms
