When you book a Costa cruise, you can experience the best of Italy on board no matter where you sail. There are 20 different Italian regions and in the main dining room, you have the chance to taste some of the most popular dishes from those regions every day with a different themed menu. Here is just a taste of the different dishes served on board.**

Liguria

Trofie with pesto, potatoes and green beans: stories from this region tell us that women of Sori gave life to this particular form of trofie. Served in the typical Ligurian cuisine style.

Tuscany

Livorno style fish broth: created by the fishermen in Livorno, this soup is still one of the best-known fish soups which is typically prepared with tomatoes, herbs and adding a bit of olive oil served with Tuscan bread rubbed with garlic.

Lazio

Rigatoni pasta with Amatriciana sauce: this recipe was born in Amatrice. This savory dish contains fried bacon, tomato sauce and pecorino cheese.

Campania

Amalfitana style spaghetti pasta topped with lemon shrimp: simple and genuine flavors of this southern region of Italy combine spaghetti and local seafood.

Veneto

Vicenza-style salted cod with grilled polenta: this dish is cooked slowly in milk that sweetens the saltiness of the cod and beautifully compliments the humbleness of polenta.

Sardinia

Gnocchetti campidanese with pork sausage, tomato sauce and saffron: the most popular traditional dish in Sardinia and served everywhere from village festivals to weddings.

Sicily

Macco soup with broad beans, stewed lettuce leaves and wild fennel: this dish dates back many generations from the province of Agrigento. This soup is made by cooking dried broad beans, to which vegetables and extra virgin olive oil are added, as well as wild fennel.

Sardinia

Sicily

Sicily

Sicily, the largest island in the Mediterranean, on the southern tip of Italy, is a rugged and attractive island and is one of the country's 20 regions. It has a rich and unique culture, especially with regard to the arts, music, literature, cuisine, and architecture. It is also home to the important archaeological and ancient sites, such as the Necropolis of Pantalica, the Valley of the Temples, and Selinunte.

Florence

Florence

Florence is the capital city of the Italian region of Tuscany and of the province of Florence. It is the most populous city in Tuscany, with 367,569 inhabitants (1,500,000 in the metropolitan area). The city lies on the River Arno and is known for its history and its importance in the Middle Ages and in the Renaissance, especially for its art and architecture. A centre of medieval European trade and finance and one of the wealthiest cities of the time, Florence is considered the birthplace of the Renaissance; it has been called the Athens of the Middle Ages. Florence is often known as the ''Jewel of the Renaissance''.

Italy

Italy

Italy is a country in Southern Europe. It is home to the greatest number of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the world. Much like its food, this country is an endless feast of experiences. It is famous worldwide for its delicious cuisine, its trendy fashion industry, luxury sports cars and motorcycles, diverse regional cultures and dialects, as well as for its beautiful coast, alpine lakes and mountain ranges (the Alps and Apennines).  There is also the country’s enormous cultural legacy: Tuscany alone has more classified historical monuments than any country in the world; there are considerable remnants of the Roman Empire all over the country, notably in Rome itself; and every region retains its own relics of an artistic tradition generally acknowledged to be among the world’s richest.

Genoa

Genoa

Genoa is a historical port city in northern Italy, the capital of the Region of Liguria. Genoa today, as a tourist attraction, is often shadowed by cities such as Rome or Venice, even though it has a long history as a rich and powerful trade centre. However, with its multitude of hidden gems behind cozy alleyways, excellent cuisine (notably fish and seafood), renovated old port, beautiful sights (including one of Europe's biggest aquariums), and its position as the European Capital of Culture in 2004 have made the birthplace of explorer Christopher Columbus an enticing place which is gradually becoming more included in the touristic market. With pastel-coloured terracotta-roofed houses, artistic churches, lovely seaside villas, and also several luxurious boutiques, Genoa is a must see if you want to experience the "quintessential" Italy.

Rome

Rome

Rome is the capital of Italy and the country's largest and most populated city and comune, with over 2.7 million residents in 1,285.3 km2 (496.3 sq mi). Rome's metropolitan area is the second largest in Italy Milan, with some 3.7 million residents. The city is located in the central-western portion of the Italian Peninsula, on the Tiber River within the Lazio region of Italy. The historic centre of the city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. With wonderful palaces, millennium-old churches, grand romantic ruins, opulent monuments, ornate statues and graceful fountains, Rome has an immensely rich historical heritage and cosmopolitan atmosphere, making it one of Europe's and the world's most visited, famous, influential and beautiful capitals.
