Grand Memories Varadero Varadero, Matanzas, Cuba

“Grand Stay at Grand Memories Varadero”

We just returned from a 8 day vacation is gorgeous Cuba (Dec 13-21)- this was our 3rd time in Cuba and our 3rd resort. We had a great time - we had 2 teenagers (19 & 16) and they were NOT bored. There is something for everyone. This is a pretty big resort and there is quite a bit of walking. We stayed in building 11 which was quite far from the beach, but right across from the "quiet pool". The pools are gorgeous and quite big. The Quiet pool has some neat caves, and a waterfall, and a cute little pool bar on the other side - never a issue finding pool chairs, and there is a snack bar at this pool as well. The activity pool is a little busier with a bigger pool bar, and lots of areas for lots to do. There is a big hot tub as well. Never a problem finding chairs at this pool either. The activity pool usually has music and dancing going on in the afternoons - which is fun to watch. The beach is beautiful - white sand, no seaweed, clean, never a problem finding a chair there either - no matter what time of day. The beach bar is a cute little hut a 3 minute walk away. There is a lunch buffet close to the beach as well. The food was not too bad, we certainly didn't starve. We know what the food is like is Cuba - we brought ketchup & mustard from home. The wait staff were so awesome Juan was a nice fellow, very polite and eager to assist us at the dinner buffet nightly. The lobby is very nice, quite big - one side has the bar and a large comfy seating area where you can visit, play cards, or just relax. There was Piano music one evening, a 3 piece strolling band another night. Outside the lobby nightly is live music that is very good and entertaining. Pretty much anywhere on this resort you can find food, entertainment, drinks, washroom facility, or a place to sit and relax. The rooms themselves are fine, basic, comfy. We had no issues, rooms made up early every day, towels every day, if we needed something the maids were handy and so nice and willing to help. This trip we tipped the groundskeepers, the cleaning people doing the public parts of the resort just as much as the rest of staff. 95% of the workers went out of their way to say hello to us, or shake our hands - the cubans are very nice kind people. All in all we had a wonderful trip was easy, and stress free - we love Cuba and it has been good to us.

The strong points Beach, pools, lobby The weak points None that i can think of.
