“Would Stay Again!”

Initially did not meet my expectations. At check in air conditioner did not work and toilet was plugged. It seems you can not put a shred of paper in the toilet. Once these issues were resolved and I saw the beach and sunk into relaxation all was better. Great Service throughout resort - people very friendly and kind. Buffet lacked but breakfast omelets were fresh and tasty. Great Cappuccinos and Americano coffees from the bar on 2nd floor. The quality of the specialty restaurants you can book were surprisingly good. Italian (Lasagna yum), Mexican (delicious fish) and Seafood (surprisingly good steak filet) were my favorites. Others raved about Chinese but not my favourite. Also preferred steak from Seafood Restaurant versus Steak from actual Steak House. Many restaurant choices compared to other hotels though so that is good. Great burgers and calamari at Mexican Restaurant for lunch. Ran into many returning hotel guests. Accommodations are very dated but everything is super clean. I had a lovely stay and would go back.

The strong points Beautiful People, Beautiful Beach, Recommend Ocean View Suite (not really ocean view-skiff in background/more garden view but still nice) The weak points Internet - Purchased 1 hour for 2 pesos but many days it did not work.

“Another wonderful week at Sol Palmeras”

From the minute we arrived to the time we left we were so royally treated! Our bungalow was close to the beach! Beach was glistening clean! Great choice of food

The strong points Such a porfessional staff who go out of their way to make your stay so comfportable The weak points Single beds pushed together to make a double!

“Lovely Escape”

Husband and I escaped for 5 days to Sol Palmeras. The resort is a solid 4 star. We found the buffet conjested, particularly with food stations amongst the tables. We ate a la carte three times and enjoyed each (seafood, italian & steakhouse) very much. The beach is fabulous. I highly recommend getting a bungalow. They are peaceful and spacious and perfect for privacy. Overall, I would recommend this resort and would return.

The strong points Beach The weak points Buffet

“Family Holiday”

We loved the hotel, the location and the beach. Disappointed with the initial greeting (none to speak of) at the front desk. No personality from most of the bar tenders or other staff. Not much entertainment crew. Hardly saw them and they were not engaging either. We had a very good vacation over all.

The strong points Beautiful resort, beaches, rooms, lobby, bars. Great location. The weak points Staff, no personality, not friendly, no smiles. The maids were the most cheerful. Not much entertainment crew to see.

“Won't be back”

Was more like a 2.5 star rather than a 4 by North American standards. The bungalow we stayed in was nice and quiet, but smelled funky from all the years of people smoking and musty from mold. There were ants and bugs, but overall was ok. The food was not great. It was difficult to find things to eat, the food is mushy and the quality was poor. I was expecting nice tropical fruit but that was also a disappointment. Not much selection and the pineapple was the best but was not ripe so not much flavour. The Papaya was inedible. The staff for the most part were disinterested in serving or helping you unless they were being tipped. I saw a lot of eye rolling and deadpan faces when dealing with customers, very rude overall. The storekeepers are not to be trusted in the hotel nor the Plaza America - make sure to get a receipt!! Get up early to get a lounge chair at the beach as they're gone by 8am. A lot of the staff have a brother or a husband with a taxi and will arrange for tours - be cautious, our trip was not as we negotiated. No guidance and were left to navigate Havana on our own, not knowing what we were looking at and felt very vulnerable. Was a HUGE disappointment and not what we asked for. The concierge office is not helpful at all with this type of thing.

The strong points The sand and water were gorgeous. The towel exchange staff were lovely and friendly. The weak points The food was awful, rooms were dated and musty. Most of the staff were rude and unhelpful unless you tipped constantly. The storekeepers will give you the wrong change and charge incorrectly, always get a receipt.

“Holiday in Sol Palmeras”

Overall, we had a very pleasant experience. The staff were very accommodating and friendly. The buffet dining area seemed to be too congested at times, probably because of the number of guests and the food stations, which are scattered throughout the seated areas.

The strong points staff friendliness, beach location, and services. The weak points Buffet restaurant set up, locations of nightly entertainment, and beach chairs.

“Love that Beach!”

This was our first time in Cuba and we would return to this hotel for its beautiful beach and its atmosphere. We had a few issues at the beginning with our room but they were rectified by there customer service rep Diana. Thank goodness for her as she was the only rep that spoke decent English! Food : We went with low expectations as warned and it was good that they were low. You can always find something to eat but it's the same items everyday in the buffet. Their presentation is awful but if you try some of the strange looking stuff it's not too bad. Bring some Pepto. We went to all 5 of the A la Cartes, only the Chinese and Italian were good. Mexican, Steakhouse and Seafood was pretty gross. Service: We had some crusty miserable servers at the buffet the first few days, but then found a group of servers, Wiskelmis, Olga and Raymondo and a few others that were wonderful and attentive. Most of the other staff were ok just not overly friendly, bartenders, front desk, housekeepers.. I always had to say Hola first otherwise they would act like you weren't even there. Room: We stayed in a deluxe bungalow. It was supposed to have two twin beds in the master and a sofa bed, but our bungalow did not have a sofa bed. They brought us two "cots" which were fine. They were equivalent to the twins in the bedroom. The shower has crappy water pressure and we had hot water issues as there was 4 of us showering daily, but we managed. Entertainment: The nightly shows were really good. Dancing, a magic show, aquatic show, Michael Jackson show.... they are really talented! Beach: Fairly large with beautiful white sand and clear water. Water shoes are not required, there are a few pebbles and shells when walking in but it's all sand once your in. Pool: Not many chairs around the pool but you can find them if you go early. Pools were clean and a decent size for the size of the resort and the fact that most people were on the beach. Lots of cabanas around the pool. I'm not sure if the hotel was at capacity while we were there????

The strong points Beach, pool, hammocks, lots of places to hangout and relax, Italian and Chinese Restaurants The weak points Buffet, some of the staff. Other guests... many rude people with no manners. Not as many Canadians at this resort as I expected.

“Relaxing Stay”

This hotel has lost none of its charm in the last 20 years and has been well maintained. The service staff are very friendly and helpful and the buffet is well organized so there are no lineups. It is well located on a fine beach with enough shelter for everyone.

The strong points Great location on the beach-above average food-good quality drinks/coffee The weak points none
