“In one word”

This hotel was beautiful. The beach is gorgeous. It has white sand and clear blue water. I could not get my kids out of the water. We went on July 5th to July 12th which is apparently their quiet season. There were always available chairs near the pool and available huts on the beach. The rooms are big but need a little maintenance and upgrade. Not a show stopper. The rooms and the facility is very clean and the people are so friendly. We would definitely be back to this resort.

The strong points Beach, cleanliness and staff The weak points room (need facelift) and entertainment

“THE WORST HOTEL IN CUBA”

When we were going back to Toronto we talked to many couples on the bus and on the plane, every second person had a food poising including myself (stomach pain, vomiting, diarrhea headache, etc.) We traveled to Iberostar Ensenachos from May 9 – May 17. Me and my wife we traveled to Cuba about 8 time in the last 5 years. When we book a vacation to Cuba we don’t expect 5* hotel as it is advertised, but this time was the worst vacation ever. We and maybe another 5 couples arrived to the hotel at around noon, our room wasn’t ready. They kept us waiting until exactly 16:00 (that’s when official check in time). When we got to the room… well it was kind of “broken”. Almost everything was broken: bathroom doors, all the drawers, table lamps, balcony door, shower head, toilet was always liking. Only TV, AC and door look was working fine. I went back to the reception to try to change the room, I was rudely told that the hotel is fully booked and if I want to change the room I have to buy room in 18 section which is $400 cuc or around $500 cnd. Fine we stayed in our “broken” room. Only one thing I wanted them to fix in our room was shower head, we went FOUR time in FOUR days to the reception, customer service office, sun wing agent to ask them to fix that shower head… NOTHNG, nobody cares, so I gave up. Buffet was extremely dirty. Full of flies and birds. They did not change table cloths for days, same dirty spot on the same table day after day. Chairs are just falling apart all dirty and cracked. FOOD: I’m sorry, but when you claim to be 5* hotel at least try to be 4* hotel. Food was disgusting absolutely disgusting. 8 days it was the same food, SAME FOOD day after day. In the morning there were serving fresh mussels in the afternoon same mussels but boiled for the dinner same mussels in some sort of sous. Almost all the food was undercooked and cold, No food variety what so ever. On the second day I got sick (stomach pain, vomiting, diarrhea headache) I went to the local hospital for treatment, I was told it was a virus, ye right. Doctor gave me some pills, the next day I was ok. After my sickness we tried to eat only fully cooked food and pizza, but on the last day we found a FLY inside the pizza, fly was melted in the cheese…. disgusting!!!!!!!!!!! Beach: beach was really amazing!!!! White sand, calm warm water, untouched natural life. But lack of umbrellas. If you don’t reserve your umbrella before 8am you won’t find a place under the shade. Hotel: REALLY HUGE PLACE. It was like jungles, really green well kept, but walking distance were just killing us. To go from lobby the beach takes about 15 min or you can wait for shuttle bus for 15 mins. One day I had my phone with me all day, at the end of the day it showed me that I walked 20km. I WILL NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL TO ANYONE IT IS THE WORST PLACE IN CUBA.

The strong points Beach The weak points SAME FOOD day after day fly was melted in the cheese Almost all the food was undercooked and cold got sick (stomach pain, vomiting, diarrhea headache Buffet was extremely dirty. Full of flies and birds

“Iberostar Ensenachos”

We stayed in a duplex suite, in the Spa section (adults only) of the resort. Check-in went smoothly. When we got to our room we noticed the A/C on the lower level was broken, as was the ceiling fan in the bedroom. After trying a few times to call maintenance, we finally got through. The next day the A/C was fixed, however the ceiling fan was never fixed, and we never received an explanation. The bed in the room was very uncomfortable; you could feel the springs in the mattress. We put the two duvet covers from the closet on the bed to add extra cushioning, which helped a bit. The water pressure in our shower was excellent, but the shower door didn't seal properly so you had to make sure the water wasn't aimed at the door, otherwise there would be a lot of water on the floor. The beaches are amazing, and definitely the strongest point of the resort. We enjoyed the pool (in the spa section) in the afternoons. The surrounding trees and gardens make it feel very secluded. The main buffet was not air conditioned, and therefore hot and uncomfortable. There are tables outside, so if you get to the buffet as soon as it opens you can find space to sit outside. On our last night the A/C was actually turned on (only time during the whole week we were there). There are a lot of flies in the buffet. They really need to cover up their food. One morning my husband found a fly in the scrambled eggs at the buffet. Very gross. The food choices at the buffet are ok but not great. Food is not available 24 hours. They really need an indoor snack bar. The water and power went out intermittently throughout our stay. Although the beaches are excellent, and the adult pool was quite relaxing, there are too many other things that miss the mark with this resort to rate it a 5 star.

The strong points The beaches and adults only pool The weak points The bed, the lack of A/C and amount of flies in the main buffet, food not being available in the late afternoon, overall lack of upkeep maintenance around the resort.

“Cayo Santa Maria”

Good hotel, great beaches, food on par with Cuba. Staff is very motivated by tips but friendly.

The strong points The beaches The weak points To far from airport, 1h30 commute. You must ask for the welcome gift, why bother? Spa credit was changed from $50. USD to 20% discount. Health club not opening on time, eg. 2 hours late.

“Great tennis Reno/service”

We were very pleased with this hotel. It was beyond our expectations, while the hotel needs some work in their infrastructure ,our overall experience was very positive. The staff are very helpful and I believe try their best in spite of shortages of materials and supplies at times. This hotel is undergoing a change in management,I think it will only improve. We stayed 2 weeks. The highlights for us were: the great tennis lessons, the beauty of the beaches, the unbelievable Cuban music in the lobby area each evening and the service from the staff. We enjoyed the food.I would return to this hotel.

The strong points Tennis instruction from Reno, beaches, lobby music, friendly staff, great cappucino, very clean pool, food. The weak points tennis infrastructure,(court condition, fences),lack of beach palapas(shade).

“Awesome Beaches”

Decent bus ride from the airport and the bus guide was very informative. Checkin was very slow and then no bell boys so we had to carry our suitcases and try and find our rooom in the dark.Things improved dramatically from there. Food was ok. Sometimes the evening buffet was a bit sketchy but the breakfast buffet was always good with omelettes and freshly cooked eggs etc. We really enjoyed the Mediterranean and the Asian. Skip the Internatinal. Lots of walking which is okay . Rooms are super clean and maids did a great job. Very nice entertainment in the lobbby and the shows were decent as well.

The strong points Beaches especially Esanachos. The weak points Long checkin and no bellboy to take luggage. Frustrating after a really long day of travelling.

“Very nice hotel”

We were pleasantly surprised by Iberostar Ensenachos. The resort is huge! So they have parts of the resort for adults only and for families. We traveled with a 7 year old child and he loved it. Everything was 5 stars, the food, the rooms, pools and the beaches! And the garden was just beautiful! We had a great time there and definitely recommend this resort !

The strong points Beaches The weak points Rooms were not ready when we arrived, but they were ready by check in time.

“Will return”

Check in needs to be re organized. There was no one to greet the bus to give us directions telling us where to leave our luggage and where to find the front desk which is not highly visible. The rest of the vacation was great. The rooms were clean, food was good, the grounds are beautiful, the beaches are awesome and the water is some of the best that we have seen.

The strong points Beach, staff, food The weak points Front desk

“Cuba's Iberostar Ensenachos”

Book your restaurant reservations when you get there as they fill up quickly. Japanese restaurant was my favourite. Bring Canadian dollars and pay for spa, or excursions with it. Their machines are slow and credit card charges from Cuba are high. Please tip the staff, they are not highly paid.

The strong points Good food, good service, friendliness, beautiful accommodations, nice beaches The weak points One 2 hour power failure, but it's Cuba.
