The weak points variety of food same all week (buffay) some staff are not very nice or just not very helpful.everybody moves on Jamaican time, very slow, no rush.

“ Grand Disappointment”

This hotel falls short of it's supposed 5 star rating. When I arrived at the hotel after a long gruelling journey I was told my room was not ready. No apology or regret was expressed. The lobby is not air conditioned, so in no time sweat was dripping down my back. While waiting over an hour for my room I was pursued by the hotel "Privilege" staff trying to get me to sign up for a tour of the hotel & promising gifts at the end (I later found out this is where a sales team pressures you to sign up for their travel club). They asked me personal questions such as my age, and I found out it's because if you're above 35 they get an added bonus for signing you up.

When I first arrived in my room, I noticed there were NO hand towels, NO wash cloths and NO soap provided. I've been to motels better stocked than this. The bed sheet and pillow cases also had stains on them. The service was quite appalling. It took forever to get these basic items to my room. Even the managers/supervisors will tell you they are looking into your request/concern - but they all lie! I was told by a manager when I went to complain about a number of things (like staff entering my room even though I had the do not disturb sign up) that since it's low season certain details aren't attended to. Oh - so I guess since I'm travelling during low season my money isn't as good & I'm not as valued as a guest travelling during high season.

Even after complaining about staff entering my room when I had the sign up, someone entered again. One morning while waiting for housekeeping to bring me an umbrella that should have been stocked in my room, I ended up missing breakfast because after 1.5 hours housekeeping never came. The supervisor's response to me was to go buy my breakfast at one of the local shops (even though I had paid for an all-inclusive trip).

At one point staff had slid a letter under my door alerting me to the fact that there was "no voucher for me on file." I was made to feel like a common thief being evicted from their apartment. I went to the front desk and inquired what the voucher was (I booked this trip online & wasn't told I needed a voucher). Luckily at home I had printed the voucher they sought & promptly gave it to them.

I will never go to this hotel again and I've been telling everyone I met after my trip never to come here either. if I can help spare at least one person from the trauma I experienced I will do so. “ 5 Star resorts not what they used to be”

Overall, we had a good vacation but the beverage service at the buffet was very slow. There was no bar service at the evening shows. Lobby internet was painfully slow or non-existant. Housekeeping was also lacking for a 5 Star resort. Room Quality - Price Front desk / Reception Beaches Location Bathroom Staff / Crew Cleanliness Business Services Food / Restaurants

The strong points Service and food quality was excellent at the a la carte restaurants and at the beach snack bar. The pool deck was very spacious--one of the best of all the resorts that I have been to.

The weak points Housekeeping was not what I expect of a 5 Star resort. It was late in the afternoon, not at all or we were without clean towels until late in the evening.

“ Grand Bahia principe”

The food at the buffet was not good. The hotel was not clean(I got very sick). Staff were okay. We had one dinner at the Italian restaurant, it was terrible. However, we had dinner on the beach and that was great, a lot of care put into making the meal nice for us. It's my opinion that this hotel is for people who are young and like to party or those who are middle aged who like to drink themselves to sleep or do drugs. If you are getting away just to relax in peace then this is not the place for you. Like I said this is just my opinion. “ As Expected (for 3.5-4 stars)”

Great value for money, but this isn't a 5 star resort; not even for Cuban/Dominican standards, let alone Jamaica. Room would be cleaned, but no new clean towels would be available until late in the afternoon. There'd be lineups for food, and no clean plates/utensils available once you eventually got seated. Hundreds of lounge chairs lay empty yet 'reserved' with towels on them, while only a few are actually in use on the beach. Thus, you're forced to get creative and will rarely have a good spot to relax. This hotel has a lower price, but please note that you get what you pay for. A la carte restaurants are good. This is another 'white lie' adults-only resort. There are adults-only sections, but they are surrounded by all-aged patrons. You'll be surprised when you find out this resort is only 8-9 years old. It has aged beyond it's years. Lastly, it's an hour east of Montego Bay, so trips to Ocho Rios are easy, but don't expect to go to Negril (for Rick's Cafe / sunsets) as it's a 3.5 hour drive each way. Room Quality - Price Front desk / Reception Beaches Location Bathroom Staff / Crew Cleanliness Business Services Food / Restaurants

The strong points A la carte restaurants are nice. Everything else is 'as expected', assuming you're expecting a 3.5 to 4 star experience.

The weak points Waiting in line for tables. Waiting in line for plates to arrive. Waiting in line for cups to arrive. Having no spots available to sit on the beach or at the pool.

“ Excellente expérience”

Nous avons été charmés par la courtoisie du personnel,la qualité de l'hotel. La température était au rendez vous et l'hotel n'était pas à pleine capacité ce qui faisait en sorte que les restaurants et les différentes activités sur le site étaient disponible facilement. Seulement la piscine et son environnement étaient très occupés. Il fallait se lever tot pour s'assurer d'un palapas autour de celle-ci meme si elle est très grande. “ Great food and staff”

I did like the resort. The beach was nice because it hardly had any waves. It was great for kids, but I have seen better beaches. The water was beautiful on one day but less blue on other days. I guess it depends on weather and ocean currents.

The food was great with jerk chicken at the beach hut and many other Jamiaican specialities offered each day and night.

The staff is very friendly. We did have some issues with check-in and had to wait until 7 p.m. to get our room when check-in is at 3 p.m. We could have been accomodated better.

The night shows were not the greatest.

I do wish they had towel racks on the balcony to hang a towel and bathing suit to dry.

The beach was well groommed each morning. I do wish they had bulit-in table on the parasols so you can place your drinks or beach bag.

I did enjoy my stay, but I probably will not go back. Room Quality - Price Front desk / Reception Beaches Location Bathroom Staff / Crew Cleanliness Business Services Food / Restaurants

“ Excellent vacation!!!”

We had a wonderful vacation in Jamaica and would totally recommend the Grand Bahia Principe Runaway Bay. We had a bit of a hiccup on check in due to the people in our room checking out late resulting in us not being able to check in until an hour later than we were suppose to, but we were able to enjoy all the amenities of the hotel while we waited. This place is fantastic, the rooms are amazing, the view from our 4th floor room was breath taking and the staff goes out of their way to make your stay a great one. The food was wonderful at all the restaurants. Our favorites were the Grill and Don Pablo, but all the restaurants had excellent service and wonderful food.

The bar staff all have such a great attitude, they have fun, and really go out of their way to make sure you do too. We spent days by the pool and at the beach and must say that both are well kept and clean. I watch every morning as both the beach and pool staff cleaned and tidied both areas to make sure they were in tip top shape for the patrons of the day.

The grandure of this resort is wonderful, it really lives up to the pictures you see online, and the grounds are kept in excellent shape.

We purchased the Royal Golden package, which was a great perk, a few added things that really did make the trip that much better.

There is only one drawback that was easy to deal with, by simply saying "not interested" and walking by. They had people walking around the resort and in one area of the lobby that would ask you to attend a breakfast and tour of the special VIP section of the hotel, they wanted you to buy into a special package where you can visit other of the Grand Bahia resort properties, in return for taking the tour they give you a "special gift". We just told them we weren't interested, and once you are there a couple of days, they'll just leave you alone. Kind of a annoyance, but nothing major.

We can't wait to go back! Hopefully we can get another great deal the next time like we did this year. Room Quality - Price Front desk / Reception Beaches Location Bathroom Staff / Crew Cleanliness Business Services Food / Restaurants

The strong points Excellent resort, great food, friendly service, clean pool and grounds.

The weak points People walking around trying to get us to go on a tour and buy something we told them we weren't interested in.

The hotel is well maintained and great staff. Upon check-in our room was not ready Philip coordinated an alternative room for 1 day. This was our first trip to Jamaica and our 2nd time with a Gran Bahia resort. The hotel was beautiful and the staff friendly! The food was the best we've experienced at an all inclusive. We did the Mikado, Don Pablo and the Garden Grill. Hard to say which was our favorite as they were all great. Jerk Chicken at the beach snack bar was another daily favorite. “ Extremely Disappointed =2 1/2 star NOT 5”

Extremely disappointed! I always thought people who wrote negative things on websites were just the sort that usually complain about life in general. I am usually "Susie Frikkin Sunshine" or Madame Positivity. But this trip had me in tears and ready to go home on day 4 if they would have paid the flight exchange! We upgraded to Diamond service at time of booking and the only advantages were having 4 ala cartés pre reserved for us. and a friendly ear to pass our troubles on to but our deficits were never corrected!. The only positive was the FOOD! It was fantastic! The service was poor and delivered with attitude most of the time although there were about 5 individuals who made our trip tolerable. We had a dirty room with black moldy grout in the room and bathroom . The frosted doors had never been cleaned and had someone else's mucous products wiped on walls and doors. The sharp and broken showerhead kept falling off the wall while taking a shower. We never had sundries? Shampoo , handsoap and towels would vanish to never reappear. We had cockroaches that were never dealt with until day 5. No we did not take them up on the offer to switch rooms on night 5 as we only had 1 more night to sleep in that room?.It was impossible to get beach chairs as towels without people were taking up the majority of them at all locations. Not many people present? I have pictures to back all of this up. It was my 50th birthday and I wore the silly crown for the day and not a single staff wished me a happy birthday? No candle in a piece of cake. Nothing at all? Many tourists did. I spent the first 2 days cheering up my very disappointed spouse, then I convinced myself that roaches did NOT use humans as food sources (Thank you GOOGLE), then spent the rest of my time trying to hide from the sun as I sunburned the 2nd day because we could not find available chairs nor shade. The day we left I found an umbrella in the closet! I would have used it for shade had I known it was there! I really am not sure, even if they offered us a free trip, that we would return to Jamaica or this resort. I do NOT recommend it. It was advertised as a 5 star and it barely met the standards of a 2 1/2 star Cuban Agua Azulés in comparison. For almost 4 times the price! The strong points The food at the ala carte restaurants and the buffet was exceptional.

The weak points The "noncompliance" to head staff requests for sundries, towels, cockroach problem and cleanliness. Poor middle staff attitude towards non-Exclusive/ Luxury premium paying guests. Overall uncleanliness of Hallways and a state of disrepair noticeable dirt.
