A 20-year-old man was arrested after a 69-year-old woman claimed she was sexually assaulted on WestJet flight from Calgary to Halifax.  The man and woman did not know each other, and there was a third passenger seated in their row during the four-and-a-half hour flight.
Police said, “When it happened, the victim notified the flight attendant right away”

Halifax District RCMP Cpl Greg Church said the woman, from British Columbia, was awake at the time of the alleged incident and was not physically injured.

Cabin crew informed flight WJA226’s captain, who asked for police officers to meet the plane.

Police officers boarded and arrested the Nova Scotia man when the Boeing 737-700 – carrying 132 passengers and five crew – landed at Halifax Stanfield International Airport shortly before 6pm local time on Tuesday.

He was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court in October.

WestJet spokesman Robert Palmer, was reported as saying,  “At some point during the flight, a member of our crew was notified of an incident involving a male guest and a female guest.

“The male guest was moved to another seat on the aircraft and RCMP was contacted to meet the flight in Halifax.

“Upon arrival, RCMP arrested the male guest and a charge of sexual assault against him is pending.

“We are taking this incident extremely seriously and will work closely with investigators as part of the legal processes that will now unfold.”
