WHAT WERE THEY THINKING Family sues airline

A 13-year-old girl was flying unaccompanied with American Airlines from Dallas to Portland. The plane was half empty yet a 26-year-old man chose to sit in the middle seat beside the girl. A flight attendant asked if he would not be more comfortable in the aisle seat or in a different row and he declined her offer to move. One only wonders why the same offer was not made to the girl.

It is alleged that he spent the next 30 minutes leaning against, touching and groping the minor. The family is filing a civil law suit against the airline.
A witness stated that Portland resident Chad Cameron Camp had four mixed drinks at an airport bar before boarding his flight.
He is reported to have been talking to himself and used an expletive as soon as he sat next to the girl whose parents paid an extra $300 for her to travel alone.
The complaint alleged that Camp attempted small talk with the girl and brushed up against her upper arm and shoulder, putting his face just inches from hers.
He is said to have twice offered to share his headset with her.
It is alleged that Camp touched her knees and thighs repeatedly. Brent Goodfellow, the lawyer representing the girls family said there were 15 incidents of touching. When the youngster pushed Camp’s hand away and crossed her legs, he is reported to have laughed.
A half hour later, the flight attendant came by for drink service and saw Camp’s hand on the girl’s crotch and ‘a single tear coming down the victim’s cheek.’
At that point Camp was separated from the teenager for the duration of the flight and was arrested by the FBI as soon as he exited the plane. He was charged with abusive sexual conduct and held without bail.
He pleaded not guilty, but Magistrate Judge John Jelderks agreed with prosecutors to keep Camp incarcerated. He would be granted temporary release for drug-and-alcohol evaluation.
Goodfellow stated, “This girl got abused for 30 minutes and no one was to be found.” The family paid $300 extra and this is what they get?”
American Airlines said it takes “these matters very seriously” and is fully cooperating with law enforcement.
In a written statement the airline said, “American cares deeply about our young passengers and is committed to providing a safe and pleasant travel experience for them.”
