United Airlines recently announced it is all set to increase the competition in the trans-Pacific market with the launch of its fuel-efficient Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircrafts on its Sydney route. The airline is presently operating flights on its Melbourne route with the help of Dreamliner aircrafts. The airline’s Sydney-San Francisco and Sydney-Los Angeles routes are being currently served daily utilizing Boeing 777-200 aircrafts since March 2015.
A spokesperson of United Airlines said that the Boeing 777-200 aircrafts serving the two U.S. cities from Sydney will now be replaced by Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircrafts. The flights to San Francisco from Sydney will start operating from March 27, 2016, while the service on Sydney-Los Angeles route will start operating the following day. The move of United Airlines has come soon after Qantas Airways announced its decision to resume its flights services to San Francisco as its codeshare partner American Airlines is also to start its daily flights between Sydney and Los Angeles with the help of Boeing 777 aircrafts effective from December 2015. Qantas Airways also meanwhile revealed that it is likely to take the delivery of Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircrafts in 2017. More competition is also likely even as Air New Zealand has also revealed its plans to target Australian customers heading across the Pacific in a big way. New Zealand’s flagship carrier has decided to aggressively market its Auckland hub and also one-stop services from key New Zealand cities such as Melbourne and Perth to various destinations in North America and South America.
