THE FUTURE LOOKS BRIGHT AHEAD

High tech clothing is going even higher. By next year it will be 11,000 m high when EasyJet introduces wearable technology uniforms for their cabin crew and engineers. The high tech garbs are meant to enhance communications between flight staff and benefit passengers and crew in emergency situations. The garments are not only flashy - they are smart.

The European carrier has hired CuteCircuit known for making Katy Perry glow in flashing LEDs.

The new uniforms for cabin crew and select ground crew will have LED lights which can illuminate the plane in an emergency, microphones for communication between captain and crew as well as cameras, air quality sensors and a barometer.

The cabin lights may be dimmed, but the flight attendants needn’t be.  The hems of their uniforms provide extra lighting.

Tina Milton, Head of Cabin Crew for EasyJet said, “Our crew’s primary concern is for the safety of all passengers so it is really exciting to be working on this pioneering new technology which could transform the capability of our uniforms.”

Flight information will appear on the hoods and shoulders of crew uniforms.

The engineers’ uniforms will have reflective panels and LEDs in the hood to illuminate their work areas in a hands-free capacity.  They will have built in video cameras allowing them to send images to other engineers to help diagnose problems.

Air quality sensors and a barometer allow engineers to monitor their work environment and determine air quality in other cities.

The uniforms of the future will be out for select flights in 2016.
