SECURITY SCARE AT PORTMIAMI

There was a security scare at PortMiami last Friday when passengers on the Norwegian Sky had to evacuate the ship. Law enforcement officers and their K9’s swept the vessel after it was determined that a passenger boarded without scanning their key card.

A witness reportedly told ABC’s Local10.com that a man tried to scan his card but when it made a noise he bolted on the ship, alerting security. Norwegian Cruise Lines said, “At approximately 12:30 pm this afternoon, a guest who had previously cleared a pier-side security checkpoint boarded Norwegian Sky without scanning their key card. “In an abundance of caution, the ship is undergoing a secondary security sweep in cooperation with MDPD and CBP officers and guests have been asked to disembark during this process.

“Once the vessel has been cleared, all remaining guests will embark the ship. At this time, we expect the ship to arrive in Nassau as scheduled tomorrow morning.” Passengers transferred to the terminal were given water and sandwiches. Investigators from Miami-Dade Police, FBI, Homeland Security and US Customs and Border Protection ended their investigation at 8 pm where they determined that there was in fact no breach in security with everyone accounted for.

Norwegian Cruise Line offered a $50 credit for passenger to use on the ship when they returned and the ship managed to call on its next port of call in Nassau on time.
