The CN Tower will put its night light on this evening, illuminating green in honour of St Patrick’s Day. Niagara Falls will show their green side as well with the St Patrick’s Day Global Greening at 10 pm. Yet an ad by a company most associated with Ireland will have pulled their St. Paddy Day posters before March 17 due to an error.

Guinness Canada put an ad up in the St Patrick’s station of the TTC (Toronto Transit Committee) in anticipation of St Patrick’s Day.  It showed a green poster with the banner, ‘preferred foliage’ on top and then two symbols below.  One had a maple leaf with the descriptive saying March 16.  Beside it is was shamrock with the descriptive saying March 17.All fine - except the image was of a four leaf clover and not a shamrock. The error was not lost on the Irish Canadian community who shared pictures of the misrepresented flower of Ireland on social media. The story was picked up by publications around the world with mirror.co.uk asking their readership to spot the error. The Guinness brand is part of the Diageo portfolio.  Diageo Canada posted a statement, "In the excitement of getting ready for next week, we obviously made a mistake and thank you for bringing it to our attention. “Diageo recognizes the mistake and, as Canadians, have said sorry.”The posters were removed immediately.
