Two ships and all personnel at Melbourne’s Station Pier in Australia were evacuated last Friday for four hours when the area was extensively searched by police. Initially a police tweet advised that there was a bomb threat.

The Victoria police tweet said The Bomb Response Unit is currently conducting a safety check at Station Pier after a suspicious package was found. Stay tuned for updates. Truck drivers who would not reveal their names reported to a journalists that a sniffer dog, on a routine patrol became alerted to a grocery delivery that they had just dropped off to the MS Noordam. A second dog was sent to the same site and when his reaction was the same the decision to evacuate the pier was announced.

The evacuation took place at noon and passengers were back on the ship within four hours with passengers commenting that the process was calm and efficient. Victorian Police spokeswoman said 'everything has been cleared', and clarified that an earlier tweet published by the service about a 'suspicious package' being found was in fact incorrect. The tweet was deleted.
