Statistics Canada reports that 11 million people visit Manitoba every year, spending $1.6 billion throughout the province. The provincial government intends to spend more on tourism and capitalize on the benefits from visitors attending the NHL Classics outdoor hockey coming in the fall.

The province will be spending an extra $3.4 million for tourism marketing and development.
Growth, Enterprise and Trade Minister Cliff Cullen announced that the government will provide funding through the 96-4 model, where the province keeps 96 percent of tourism tax revenue and presents the other four percent to tourism marketing and development.
Travel Manitoba will receive a funding increase of $3.125 million this year with an additional $272,000 going towards the department’s tourism grant programs.
As part of the NHL Legendary Classics the Winnipeg Jets will play the Edmonton Oilers in a special alumni game on October 22.
The Jets and the Oilers will plan an outdoor regular-season NHL game at Investors Group Field in Winnipeg on Sunday, Oct. 23.
