Passengers aboard the Carnival Liberty are getting an extra day in the US Virgin Islands as authorities evaluate an engine that caught fire on board the cruise ship.
The fire broke out Monday while the ship was docked in St. Thomas. The ship was evacuated and there were no injuries. The fire was extinguished by the ship's sprinkler system and people were allowed back on board in the evening.

Carnival Cruise Lines said it provided free shuttle service to destinations on St. Thomas and gave passengers a $150 shipboard credit. The company said a team of experts was working to assess the engine while the ship remained in St. Thomas on Tuesday.

The Liberty was on a seven-day Caribbean cruise with 3,346 guests and a crew of 1,150.
