HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE Seven years later safety recommendations unfulfilled

Most of the safety recommendations stemming from the ditching of a crippled airliner in the Hudson River, now the basis of a new movie, have yet to be followed more than seven years after the event.

An Associated Press review of National Transportation Safety Board records found that of the 35 recommendations made in response to the forced water landing of US Airways Flight 1549:
• Six have been successfully completed
• Fourteen of the recommendations issued to the Federal Aviation Administration and its European counterpart, EASA, are marked by the NTSB as “closed-unacceptable.”
• One has been withdrawn
• The rest remain unresolved.
The movie “Sully,” which opened in theatres last week, celebrates how veteran pilot Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger averted a potential tragedy.
No one died, and only five people were seriously injured.
