The US Coast Guard says a fire broke out late Monday morning in the engine room of Carnival Cruise Line’s Liberty, which was docked in St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands.  There were no injuries to passengers or crew, Carnival said in a statement.
he ship was carrying 3,346 passengers and 1,150 crew members.

The cause of the fire is being investigated. The ship’s fire suppression system extinguished the fire.

The ship had sailed from San Juan on Sunday as part of a seven-day Caribbean cruise.  Carnival said the ship’s guests were taken to a hotel in St. Thomas, where they stayed in a reception area. Around 8 p.m. Monday, the Coast Guard gave permission for the passengers to reboard the ship.

A team of experts is evaluating the engine room, and an assessment is expected to be finished Tuesday morning.

The cruise line said it has not been determined when the ship will depart from St. Thomas.
