"There is an ancient Nuu-chah-nulth expression that says 'Hishuk ish Tsawalk,' which translates to 'everything is interconnected.'" Captain Russell Markel, owner and founder, Outer Shores Expeditions, says that is the inspiration for time spent on the Passing Cloud, one of the Ancient Civilizations and West Coast Wilderness expeditions sailing into the Pacific Rim National Park this spring.

Operator Outer Shores Expeditions, offers expeditions dedicated to exploring and experiencing the wildlife, wilderness, and rich Nuu-chah-nulth cultural heritage of British Columbia’s Barkley Sound and the Broken Group Islands. Guests will sail throughout more than three hundred islands and islets aboard the classic wooden schooner Passing Cloud. The rich coastal waters and the unique geography of the archipelago have supported indigenous populations and maritime cultures for thousands of years and throughout the five-day expedition Outer Shores' guests will explore the traditional territories of the Huu-ay-aht, Tseshaht, Uchucklesaht, Toquaht, and Ucluelet Nations.“We'll spend our time aboard Passing Cloud experiencing this symbiotic relationship between land and sea while gaining a greater understanding of how it shaped the lives of the people who lived here" said Markel.Throughout the expedition of Pacific Rim National Park guests will delve into the intact cultural heritage of the region, visiting ancient village sites with permission from, and accompanied by, First Nations representatives.Guests also take part in bear viewing excursions, kayaking, whale watching, and explorations of the islands, beaches, shores, old-growth rain forests, rocky intertidal zones, kelp forest communities, estuaries, and fjords throughout the archipelago. Each Pacific Rim National Park – Ancient Civilizations and West Coast Wilderness sailing includes a complimentary first night's stay at the beautiful waterside Whiskey Landing Lodge and a visit to the Ucluelet Aquarium prior to departure.
