CARNIVAL CRUNCH Ship hits gangway

Passengers on the Carnival Pride describe feeling a heavy thud when the ship was docking in Baltimore last Sunday morning. The ship hit a gangway causing the boarding bridge to crash down on three parked vehicles. Fortunately there were no travellers on the boarding bridge or in the pick-up trucks (owned by cruise employees) at the time.

Carnival Cruise Line says the damage to the ship is minor and limited to a small mooring deck platform on the starboard side.

Most passengers reported that once they learned that no one was hurt they gave the incident little attention.

Carnival Cruise Lines Representative Jennifer De La Cruz said passengers getting on and off the ship would use a crew gangway at the pier level and the ship departed on time for its next adventure.

The ship was returning from an eight day trip to the Bahamas.

It is unclear what caused the ship to hit the bridge, but the accident is being investigated jointly by the US Coast Guard and the cruise line.
