In response to the decline in oil prices, the world’s first “rig spotting” cruise took place off the coast of Norway this week. Passengers sailed for a four-day itinerary on board the high-tech offshore vessel Edda Fides touring oil installations in the Northern Sea.

One of the sites visited was the Statoil’s Troll A platform – the heaviest structure ever moved by humans – towering 200 meters (650ft) above the surface of the sea.
The trip was organized by Edda Accommodation, which provides housing for offshore oil workers.
Tragedy during safety training
On July 20 a routine safety training drill on the Norwegian Breakaway resulted in an accident affecting four crew members, one of whom died of his injuries. The ship was moored at King’s Wharf in Dockyard, in Hamilton, Bermuda when the lifeboat’s tethering broke and it was left hanging from one wire.
A 41-year-old Filipino crew member was reportedly killed. His identity has not been released.
Passenger airlifted
The US Coast Guard medevac’d a 19 year old woman from Norwegian Cruise Lines’ Norwegian Breakaway off the coast of North Carolina en route to New York City. The passenger was experiencing severe stomach pains and was taken by an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew and a C-130 Hercules aircraft crew to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
Lt. Seth Craven, the Jayhawk co-pilot reported, “We were happy to get this young woman to the care she needed back on shore as quickly as possible.”
Closing port
On Tuesday commissioners at the Port of Houston authorized the sale of the gangway system from the Bayport Cruise Terminal after losing contracts with Norwegian Cruise Line and Princess Cruises. Since 1999 US $108 million has been spent on the terminal including incentives to cruise lines in 2012.
The location competes with the Port of Galveston, which is three hours closer to the Gulf of Mexico.
Carnival onboard with changes
Carnival Cruise Line has announced changes to the trade support platform called ‘Onboard with you’ offering a more user friendly booking process and a search feature that will allow travel agents to find multi category staterooms that are located within close proximity.
Agents can utilize a “select and add more stateroom” programme that will allow them to book multiple staterooms without having to re-enter search criteria
