Air Canada Responds to Transport Canada's Closure of Canadian Airspace to the Boeing 737 MAX Aircraft

Posted on 03/13/2019 | About Canada, Canada

Air Canada confirmed today that it will comply immediately with Transport Canada's safety notice closing Canadian airspace to Boeing 737 MAX aircraft operations until further notice.

Given the 9,000-12,000 customers a day we typically carry on the Boeing 737, the cancellation of these flights will affect our joint customers as we work diligently to make alternate travel arrangements. Rest assured that Air Canada's cancellation and rebooking policies are being implemented with full fee waiver for affected customers.

Your clients travelling within the next 72 hours with a flight segment on a 737 Max may be accommodated as per the IROP policy found on aircanada.com using endorsement 737max

For bookings outside of the 72 hour window, we are working to understand the impact of the Safety Notice, and given the volume of customers to process and the busy Spring Break period, we also need to ask for patience as it may take longer than normal to finalize arrangements and call centre volumes are expected to be very heavy. It is also a good time to remind your clients to check the status of their flight on aircanada.com prior to going to the airport.

We fully support this decision and will continue to work with Transport Canada towards resolution of this situation as soon as possible.

Thank you for your support as we work through the implementation of the Safety Notice, and know we will continue to update you once we have further information to provide.
