American Airlines says three flight attendants and four passengers were taken to hospital after their flight from Miami to Milan encountered severe turbulence and made an emergency landing in St. John's, Newfoundland Sunday evening.

Passenger Jordan Case of Plano, Texas says he thought “we were going down,” when about four hours into the flight, the Boeing 767 with 203 people on board suddenly dropped and rolled toward one side. He said people were screaming and flight attendants scrambled to help the injured at the back of the plane. The plane made a safe emergency landing 55 minutes later. Passengers were taken to hotels for the night and the airline hopes to get them on to Italy this morning.
