A Chinese woman who fell overboard on Royal Caribbean’s Mariner of the Seas was rescued by a fishing boat crew, but not before spending 38 hours in the Pacific Ocean without a life jacket.

When the 32-year-old woman from Shanghai did not come back to her cabin at 9:00 pm on August 10 after an evening stroll, her parents reported her as missing.
The cruise line is said to have issued public announcements in a search attempt as well as having hundreds of crewmembers checking places on-board.
It was determined that she had fallen overboard through CCTV footage. The crew notified the Chinese Coast Guard, where police boarded to question crewmembers and reviewed the video of her fall.
The woman was apparently a good swimmer and tried to swim back to the ship before realizing it would be futile.
Instead she swam, treaded water, floated, and even caught some shut-eye before attracting the attention of a fishing boat's crew who pulled her aboard.
She was reasonably exhausted and suffered from sunburn and jellyfish stings.
Cynthia Martinez, director, global corporate communications stated, "We are grateful to learn that our guest is safe. Many of our crewmembers assisted in searching for her, and we all share the family's relief in her safe return home.
“We also thank the crew of the vessel that rescued her for their care and professionalism. It is our intention to respect our guest's desire for privacy and we hope others will respect her wishes as well. Our safety procedures were strictly followed during the incident, including the notifying and receiving guidance from authorities."
