INTENSE WINTER STORM Heavy snow, high winds in Nova Scotia

Nova Scotia was hit with an intense winter storm Saturday, grounding flights and making for hazardous driving conditions across the province. A slew of flights at Halifax Stanfield International Airport were cancelled or delayed, and police were advising people in Cape Breton to stay off the roads.

Environment Canada said up to 30 centimetres of snow was expected in parts of the province by Saturday evening, with northeast winds gusting up to 80 kilometres an hour.The national weather forecaster said the storm would head to Newfoundland Saturday afternoon, with up to 10 centimetres of snow expected before changing to heavy rain.
