DELTA DROPS REGINA ROUTE

This past fall, Delta Airlines switched to a larger aircraft for its Minneapolis-Regina flights. The airline has noted a poor performance on the route since then, and recently announced it will be ending service as of July 31. That leaves the capital of Saskatchewan with no flights from a US carrier.

"While the low Canadian dollar and economic downturn may have been contributing factors to the recent decline in current and forecasted passenger loads, it is extremely disappointing in light of the recent upgauge this past November that offered our guests the opportunity for first class seating and larger capacity," said Regina Airport Authority CEO Dick Graham.

Delta Airlines spokesperson Anthony Black used the term “indefinite suspension of service” stating that demand was down and revenues were softening. A number of passengers have reported taking the flight on a regular basis and finding it usually full. The airline has offered to work with passengers affected to either refund them for ticket purchases made or help them through another airline.

United Airlines cancelled its direct flights from Regina and Saskatoon to Chicago in 2014 and to Denver in 2015.
