NEXT ON THE AUCTION BLOCK. Norwegian Cruise Line

Starting in March, passengers who are booked on Norwegian Cruise Line sailings will have the opportunity to bid on cabin upgrades, and the travel agents who book them will have the opportunity to earn more commission if they do. This will be part of the Upgrade Advantage Program, which will start in February and be fleet wide in March.

The process is that NCL generates Invitations (emails) to qualified booked passengers who can choose to bid on up to two categories higher than their current class of service for their particular sailing.
Norwegian can accept the bid any time up until the date of the sailing and will charge the passenger’s credit card the full amount upon acceptance. At that point the decision is binding. Any changes to the itinerary will void the upgrade, but the charge will still go through.
The cruise line will determine how many upgrades they can offer depending on how many un-booked cabins they have.
The invitation to bid on an upgrade is determined by how much the passenger has already paid for their cruise.
It is important to note that bids are not placed on cabin types, so if the passenger originally booked a “spa cabin” the upgrade will not necessarily be to another “spa cabin” within the upgraded category.
