New boutique Press Hotel inaugurated in Portland

About Portland, Oregon

The Press Hotel recently opened its doors offering 110 rooms

Here’s a new reason for you to visit Maine. The new Press Hotel has been inaugurated in Portland. You might have stayed in prison hotels, bank hotels and warehouses-turned-industrial-chic hotels. But, this time now get ready to stay in the new stylish boutique hotel. The innovative hotel has been created by designers after converting the seven-story landmark Portland Herald Press building.
The 110-room hotel has been exquisitely designed. It gives you a feeling as though you are entering a writer’s office of 1920s. The vintage-style desks and publishing-related whimsy spread throughout provides a unique experience. You will get to see all that could have been found in a newspaper office of yesteryears – the Press, coffeemakers labelled Hot off, desk chairs printed with The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog in vintage type, and the privacy signs quote John Mitchell: My goal as a writer is more to comfort than to disturb. Even the hallways outside the rooms are wall-papered with a collage of real headlines taken from the paper. There’s even more that will take you down the memory lane. The front desk has an installation behind it providing references letterpress type blocks. The more playful one is rather found in the lobby. You will be mesmerized to see a collection of typewriters spread across a wall as though there are many silk butterflies. These amazing creations by faculty and students at the Maine College of Art perfectly give a glimpse of the city’s present and the building’s past. The hotel also has an extensive art collection throughout which have been made by Mainers. The novel, cool new Press Hotel in Portland is indeed worth staying at. The hotel’s creative design gets the nostalgia formula perfectly right here.
