MAKING CHOICES Stay or go

A group of ten tourists visiting Jiufeng National Forest Park near Beijing were just within the Siberian tiger enclosure when their safari vehicle stalled. When attempts to re-start it were unsuccessful, the tour guide suggested that the group head towards the exit and make a run for it. Understandably, some resisted the invitation as six adult tigers were roaming.

Although some of the group did hoof it back to the exit, the cautious ones waited within the safari car, many of them posting images of the big cats wandering around their broken down vehicle. Within 20 minutes game-keepers arrived to contain each tiger in a cage before the visitors were taken in a different vehicle back to the tourist centre. The park apologized and they were all offered a refund. Officials say that the vehicle stalled due to temperatures falling below zero.
