“ Don't go”

Grounds and beach are beautful. Hotel is very very dirty..walls, cushions, pillows etc are disgusting....food is not good. The only good thing about this area is the beach...it is secluded so I did get bored...and bugs were horrible....they try their best to fog but I never went out at night was we got eaten alive! reusing hot dogs from the day before to make sandwiches, using left over buffet food in the Al la cartes....I would not recommend this place...or this area if you want to enjoy a clean hotel and good food.. The strong points The Beach

The weak points The food

“ Nice place but a bit crowded”

Beach was great. Food was ok. Price was good. It was a bit crowded though so you couldn't usually get a chair at the pool. What made it worse was that people would go down to the pool and beach at 5:00AM and put towels on the chairs to save them and then often didn't use them. There was always people looking for chairs at the pool and beach and there'd be several empty chairs with peoples towels on them to save them. The management didn't do anything to discourage it.

“ Wonderful holiday!!”

Eurostars is a newer, modern resort. The beach is definitely the BEST part....it's incredibly beautiful, sand powder soft and waters so clear, just be mindful of jellyfish. There were three pools too, all very nice. We are not pool people but the one larger pool you can see the ocean from which was pretty neat. The rooms were very modern and clean, we had a ocean view even though we did not pay for it which was a nice surprise. The king bed was an actual king bed, a little firm and the pillows were very thin. The sink was separate from the bath which was nice. We didn't have a problem getting bath towels, we tipped the maid daily. There are no face cloths, I had brought my own. We also put money in the bar fridge in order to get water and beer restocked daily. The food was just OKAY. It was very repetitive and the meat questionable. I was basically a vegetarian the whole week. With that said there was food I could always eat, like pastas, rice, veggies, they even offered French fries and have ketchup;) the sports bar was 24/7, and you could get fries there. The Mediterranean a la carte was not that great, we also ate at the Fuego Hielo IT was really good!!! The staff, service and entertainment were all amazing!!! The Cubans are very friendly and such hard workers, please tip them as much as you can they really do deserve it! The night shows were great, especially Michael Jackson show, there was always entertainment on the beach and pools as well. Wednesday's you can pay 20 pesos to drive 4km to the carnivale at night, from 10-2 am. It's pretty cool I recommend going. The pictures on their website are truly what the resort looks like.....incredible Room Quality - Price Front desk / Reception Beaches Location Bathroom Staff / Crew Cleanliness Business Services Food / Restaurants

The strong points Amazing staff, incredible beach, wonderful entertainment, the resort itself is beautiful.

The weak points Food is just okay, but it's cuba. However this resort is a step up from many Cuban resorts as they have French fries and ketchup hahah

“ BEAUTIFUL XMAS STAY 23.12-30.12.2014”

I stayed there with my family during Christmas time and would like to be very honest with you guys . Location from the airport aprox 1.5 h drive by bus you don't fell that you happy you out of freeze and sun... Air-condition in bus helps beat the heat they serve beer in the bus for 2.5 pesos. right now cuban pesos higher rate then cad so to exchange 100 cad we got 82.5 cub pesos. The hotel Eurostar welcomed us with nice staff reception was quick and polite, we got all info from reception desk agent and accommodation . What I really like in the envelope we received from receptionist we got 3 already booked restaurant A la carte which was best compared to other resorts while standing in the line next day and waited to book restaurant. We got BLW 19 with pool view and that was awesome! nice view with more private and cosy swimming pool on top nice entry to the beach close by . Room are very specious clean and no smelly air condition worked perfectly. what i like about the resort that is very new resort so nice and clean . The staff is very friendly every day our room maid Marylin tried her best to clean our room everything was ready always after 2 pm. room service after 5 pm every day brought us bottle water beer coke and orange sparkles ;) the main swimming pool has 3 levels and has nice view to the wild beach ;) drink bars by the pool awesome as well drink bar by the beach and at our small swimming pool - what i like the most the girl from the small swimming pool (barmaid) was coming to us all the time to ask if we want something to drink ;) so nice . the staff speaks english/french very well , lobby awesome with live music (cuban) nice piano in the middle of the lobby . night entertainment very nice with dancers magician and disco for kids. what i found to a little to late - they started at 830 pm for kids and after 9 30 pm for adults- after while sunny day i was exhausted to attend party. every day we had amazing sunny weather plus 30 c every day ! we took catamarans and we were snorkelling. morning usually we played tennis - the resort has very nice tennis court as well gym 16 , near by you can swim with dolphins and you have a nice small town to buy wooden things cigars etc. at the airport we bought rum ( 3 year old for 5.60 pesos) and cigars. don't take us dollars- not good currency plus 10% tax !!!! better canadian $$ To go back to resort they have snack bar open 24h by the beach - hamburgers french fries and pizza home made just ok. buffet for breakfast you have all variety whatever you can eat for breakfast so you can find something good on top cooks they make for you omelettes and pancakes. tomatoes are green no cucumbers ;( what i found out veggies are missing so much but overall good breakfast . The buffet beside the pool for a luch was good too you could find lots of macaroni, spaghetti, fish pork beef salad etc not bad but not very tasty. buffet for supper i think best - fresh fish shrimps lamb even rabbit. pork, chicken french fries so again you can find something for sure. for me i did not go there for food and don't like people comments food was disgusting it was just fine . 3 restaurants a la carte - first one cuban good soup very nice as well salad main course best shrimps desert was same as on buffet nothing wow second resatuarnt beside the sea nice god looking but once again not very impressive - beef no good i ordered medium rare - very stiff , best i think was crab and chicken, my son ordered chicken with turkish bread but it was no bread ;( while asking waiter no bread ... 3 rd one fuego ( hell and heaven) really not impressive comparing to outlook they have one menu for all so you go there and get whatever is on cart - they gave macaroni with white cream and we left cause was not wharfe it to stay there. Xmas Eve during the day beside the beach the had posted pig looked good my husband said it was good i did not try , in the buffet during this night the served banana with rum it was yummy ! the beach activities good and funny (animation) but the music was way to loud with scratched cd so imagine the music... the beach towels if we had luck we got it every second day ...they need to improve it ... i had 3 days in a run same towel so not very happy about it ... overall very good experience nice clean resort new , spacious room good friendly staff ;) sun warm beautiful! rum and cigar ;) gin and tonic ;)

that need to improve food taste as well need to work on good menu in restaurants a la carte Room Quality - Price Front desk / Reception Beaches Location Bathroom Staff / Crew Cleanliness Business Services Food / Restaurants

The strong points clean new resort 3 level swimming pool private pool beside BLW 19 tennis court AMAZING WHITE SAND BEACH CLEAR WATER

“ Nice Resort”

The Eurostars is a nice modern resort. The service was great, food needs improvement, but it was okay for a week. The beach is beautiful at one end of the resort, the other end is rocky but still enjoyable. The pools were nice, but I never did see an all adult pool area. Overall we enjoyed our trip, because we knew what to expect in Cuba. This was my 8th trip to Cuba. We went for the beautiful beach, and some relaxation in the sun, and that is exactly what we got. “ Revisiting Cayo Santa Maria”

Architecturally well done, beach is superb, shows are elaborate and first rate. Resort is spread out, may be "ocean front" but our walk to the beach over 20 minutes. Housekeeping by friendly staff struggling with ongoing shortfall in supplies.... Take your own soap and shampoo. Administration and management needs direction ... there is no in room directory for services, communication with guests is poor, wait times for activities unacceptable ... eg 1 hour and 20 minutes to get a catamaran ride even when first in line. Mosquitos are prevalent - spraying inadequate. Customer service response is restricted by "rules" and scheduling is by the clock not by need. Food focusses on quantity not quality. Room Quality - Price Front desk / Reception Beaches Location Bathroom Staff / Crew Cleanliness Business Services Food / Restaurants

The strong points The beach and architecture.

The weak points A friendly staff is hobbled by administrative shortfalls and poor management systems and supply shortfalls.

“ Room for improvement”

This is one of the most modern resorts I have seen in Cuba with the best beach we have ever seen. However the staff needs more training. When we arrived it took an hour and a half to get everyone checked in. There was no welcome drink which. When we finally got to our room there were no bath or beach towels and our fridge had not been stocked. We called for towels and water and no one came with them. We went to the reception area and could not get any towels. We asked for bottled water to brush our teeth and so that I could take medication. There was no one to get it to us. We were given two small bottles of soda water to brush our teeth. The next day we mentioned this at the meeting with our rep and she directed us to customer service. Again at the meeting there was still no welcome drink. At customer service we were assured that the problem would be corrected. Our fridge was filled later in the day and we received towels also. In order to get our beach towels we had to go to the area where beach towels are traded in...there was a bit of confusion there as we were supposed to have them. The customer service rep had assured us that she would call them to give them a heads up that we were on our way but they didn't seem to understand what was going on. Two days later our room was cleaned and again there was only one towel left in our room. Again we called the front desk and no one came. We spoke with the customer service rep in the morning as well as the Noli/Air Transat rep. This was a concern for us as normally we don't mind using our towels a second time but our shower leaked from the seal where the glass and the tub meet and the floor was quite wet...after we showered we needed to wipe the floor or it would be sopping wet and we could slip when we used the other bathroom facilities. After speaking with them towels were brought to the room. On Thursday we returned to our room at 5pm and our room had still not been cleaned. We returned to the lobby area to find out why....we spoke with both reps again. The manager was contacted and we were offered a free late check out which was a nice gesture but all we wanted was clean towels on a daily basis or another room where the shower didn't leak. Our room was then cleaned but of course no towels were left. We called the lobby and finally someone came with towels. When we went to our room on our last day we were locked out when we tried to enter the room at 2pm. Our key cards would not work. We returned to the lobby to find out why - both reps were not at their desks so we went to the front desk and they had no idea that we were given a late check out. Absolutely no communication at this resort. When the customer service rep returned to the lobby area the front desk were told that we were ok to have the late check out that we should have come to the lobby at noon to have our cards reactivated. We were not told this on Thursday. This wasted over an hour of our time.

The food in the a la cartes was excellent. The food quality in the buffets was better than most other resorts we have stayed at in Mexico, Jamaica, D.R. and Cuba. However the dishwashing area could use some improvement. Every meal we had in the buffet we found dirty cups, cutlery and plates.

The lighting on the paths to the rooms was poorly lit. Many of the lights were out on the paths. This is very dangerous when you are walking back at night in high heels.

The most concerning thing to us on our stay was the lack of training and preparedness for an emergency. We had the unfortunate experience of witnessing a man having what we would presume to be a heart attack at the beach. There were no defibs, back boards or medical staff on site. It took far too long to get the ambulance to the beach area - we would estimate a half hour to 45 minutes. The staff that was trying to assist were running around clueless as for what they should be doing. The man had to be lifted from the ground and put onto a beach lounger to be carried up the path by 8 people to be put on the ambulance. After witnessing this incident we noticed at all of the pools there are also no backboards which is extremely unsafe for accidents in pools.

There is a lot of room for improvement at this hotel hopefully management takes the time to address the issues in the future. Room Quality - Price Front desk / Reception Beaches Location Bathroom Staff / Crew Cleanliness Business Services Food / Restaurants

The strong points Best beach I've ever seen Excellent food at a la cartes Modern property

“ Never again”

Arrival at hotel, no greeting, herded to table to collect envelope with your bracelet, a poor photocopy of a map of the resort and 2 prebooked a la carte reservations. then pointed back to the lobby to fill out a form and get your key. When I asked where our building/room is was told to read the map.Room was lovely except for the ants raling all over the floor and desk. Called about the problem but no one came, cupboard holding the bar fridge door kept coming off hinges. Buffet was very limited, repetative and cold with inappropriate items at certain times unless you like brussells sprouts for breakfast. Lineups were long for toast, omelets and grill items at other meals. There were water issues and we were not informed about until after the fact. Water availability was sporatic and at one point we had none for a day and a half. After not being able to shower or flush your toilet for that period of time a note tucked in your door saying they were sorry for the technical difficulties and hope we enjoy our stay hardly cut it. The money exchange ran out of money and was closed frequently. Though they say french fries on the menu in the grill there were none for the etire stay and they ran out of things frequently. The plus side is the wait staff and housekeeping staff are very pleasant.I will not being going back to this resort. Having been to Cuba multiple time I feel that this resort should be rated a three star at best until they get their stuff together. Hotel was new but just ok. Eat a big breaky(unless the flies beat you to it)because lunch & dinner are awful! Got sick on day 3 & took a week to feel ok! Should be renamed "The Smokers Eurostars" Nasty guests polluted the air everywhere..lobby, pool & beach; cigarette butts on sand! When the mosquito fogging 7am/7pm happens,RUN! Yuck! Lots of sand fleas...still scratching! Room Quality - Price Front desk / Reception Beaches Location Bathroom Staff / Crew Cleanliness Business Services Food / Restaurants

The strong points Beach & staff are awesome

The weak points Terrible Food; Rude smokers...no designated non smoking areas

My review (same as tripadvisor.com)

We booked our trip on December 28th and at the time, the hotel was rated 4th (of 9), with mostly positive reviews. Cut to one month later, it is rated 7th and based on things I heard from fellow guests while there, I predict it will be 9th very shortly. The beach is beautiful, the food and service are horrible and completely unacceptable. Recent reviews have said it all, so I will keep it short with a couple of examples. I rarely ate any meat because I was so scared of getting sick. It's interesting to see the gardeners in charge of the pig roast. Hint: the pig shouldn't still have its hair on it. The buffet menu never changed and a few items you'd find: fish with marinera sauce, pickled onions, taco flavored rice and, french fries for breakfast. Undercooked, overcooked, flies; you name it, you got it. "A La Carte" meals were equally as bad. Servers are trained to say "1,2,3 surprise" when they unvail the dish to you, and trust me, you do not want to see the surprise. We left the snack bar on at least 3 different occasions as the service was non-existant. The maid changed our towels once, despite repeated requests. One day she told us she would come back later. The next she told us to go to the front desk ourselves. I called first and waited for them to show up for 3 hours to no avail. I then went to the front desk and spoke to someone whom I thought was in a managerial position. I was assured I would get them that night and of course never did. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Room Quality - Price Front desk / Reception Beaches Location Bathroom Staff / Crew Cleanliness Business Services Food / Restaurants

“ Eurostars”

The resort is amazing - very nice layout. Everything is brand new and clean. The rooms have modern design. The staff has a lot of learning to do (service and language). We found the snack bar to be the most disorganized place. If you want pizza, you need to be there at noon, otherwise, they run out of dough after 10min of serving. Food selection is poor. We were most impressed with the bartender in the lobby - Rafael (Raffaello) - amazing job! Room Quality - Price Front desk / Reception Beaches Location Bathroom Staff / Crew Cleanliness Business Services Food / Restaurants

The strong points clean. Beach. Walking distance to the Market at Memories resort. Bartender in the lobby - Rafael - amazing job!

The weak points Food selection. Dark at night on the paths.

“ Eurostars Jan 2014”

My 4th time in Cuba. Best "property" I have been on. Some staff inexperienced, but friendly. Bring a travel mug for fewer trips to the bar/keeping drinks cold. Some food questionable, but good choice in daytime. Breakfast very good. Would repeat visit. Room Quality - Price Front desk / Reception Beaches Location Bathroom Staff / Crew Cleanliness Business Services Food / Restaurants

The strong points Pools, Beaches, Room Design, Newness of everything, gardens.

The weak points Food (sometimes only needs further cooking), some staff very new/inexperienced. Mopeds (only 3), Currency exchange (often out of money). Internet (none - they do not have the "code"). Very dark on paths at night (could be dangerous if you fall off path).

“ Perfect Vacation at Eurostarr”

We loved this new resort, beautiful beach, amazing staff, clean, felt safe, but it still has to fix some problems, landscaping unfinished, lighting in pathways and money exchange problems. Food was very good but a la carte not good, cold food, burnt meat, preferred buffet or grill at beach. Overall we loved it and will return. Room Quality - Price Front desk / Reception Beaches Location Bathroom Staff / Crew Cleanliness Business Services Food / Restaurants

The strong points Beach, staff at restaurants and bars, beautiful resort, food great

The weak points Currency exchange office ran out of money often, staff at reception and store not very friendly, internet access should be free like other resorts

“ Wish I went elsewhere”

I was disappointed with the service. I never travel and this was the first time in three years I had the chance to go. So this was a special trip for me and it was ruined by the frustration with staff. No customer service at all. No once cared to make the guests happy. The strong points modern hotel. Nice fixtures. Lobby open concept. Pools over look ocean. Spacious eating areas. Great Entertainment area.

The weak points Staff is disorganized and disengaged with guests. Service was so terrible. Food was medicore. Long line ups everywhere. Bank was always closed. No towels. Bad handling of food. Limited internet access. Staff never picked up phone.

“ Beautiful resort but needs better management.”

Overall we had a great experience but we heard some horror stories from other travellers. It's a really beautiful beach and resort and has tremendous potential but will not succeed under it's current management direction. Room Quality - Price Front desk / Reception Beaches Location Bathroom Staff / Crew Cleanliness Business Services Food / Restaurants

The strong points A gorgeous white sand beach and beautiful turquoise water. The resort is of modern design with a great ambiance. This place a potential to be amazing in a couple of years.

The weak points This resort needs strong management, as it's poorly organized. Staff are nice but most are not trained properly. The food is not bad by Cuban resort standards but definitely lacked variety. I don't believe the resort was ready to handle it full capacity.

“ Eurostars cayo santa maria”

beach is beautiful, white sand and not hot to walk on. Weather was perfect. The hotel needs more maintenance staff to clean up the beach. Vacationers littered the beach with plastic cups, straws, etc... Pools were very clean. Food was mediocre (but we didn't go to Cuba for the food). Cold cuts, cheeses, anything with mayo was not put on ice so we avoided those types of food. Long line-ups for the grills to eat lunch. The only drawback was the bug bites. Huge welts and extremely itchy. Not sure if it was from the beach, pool or just walking around. Didn't feel the insects bite. For the first 4 days, the hotel's cashier had no cuban money to exchange. We walked to the next hotel to exchange money. Room Quality - Price Front desk / Reception Beaches Location Bathroom Staff / Crew Cleanliness Business Services Food / Restaurants

The strong points beach is beautiful with white soft sand.

The weak points bug bites, long line-ups for everything from the grill to reserving for dinner restaurants.

“ Christmas at Eurostaro”

We had an amazing stay at the Eurostar this past Christmas. The service was outstanding and the resort is extremely clean (I was really impressed). I loved that you were served at the beach and pool with drinks. Great touch! The rooms were beautiful and the bathrooms were amazing. The food was the typical Cuban Food. I wish there was a little more variety. I suggested that they should have a theme for each night to have variety at the buffet. The food on Christmas Eve was outstanding!!!! The variety and abundance was outstanding. Extremely well done! Overall, I loved this resort, I have recommended it to others and I will return as it was a great place for both adults and children! Room Quality - Price Front desk / Reception Beaches Location Bathroom Staff / Crew Cleanliness Business Services Food / Restaurants

The strong points Cleanliness, Rooms were large and beautiful and the bathrooms in the rooms were amazing. The food at the buffet for Christmas was outstanding. Very well done!!!

The weak points I wish there was a little more variety. I suggested that they should have a theme for each night to have variety at the buffet. For example, Friday night is seafood night, Saturday is Mexican night, Sunday is Canadian night, etc

“ Good value for money”

The first time I went to Cuba was almost 20 years ago. I had been told that things have improved dramatically. In part, I agree. The Eurostars premises are a solid 4-star (for Cuba) with beautiful swimming pools, an impressive theatre space, an incredible beach, and clean, spacious rooms. The people who work there are genuinely friendly and strive to provide good service.

Our only complaint was with the food at the buffet and the Guiro a-la-carte restaurant. I don’t expect gourmet at any resort buffet, much less one in Cuba, but (apart from the baked goods) what they did with the ingredients available to them revealed little culinary skill or imagination. Our meal at the Guiro restaurant was worse than the buffet: the chicken and rice seemed to have been sitting under heat lamps for hours. The kitchen staff there seemed to lack basic common sense for food safety: two of our appetizers, which consisted of a couple of rolled-up pre-packaged ham slices, contained a hidden half-toothpick. Before I had a chance to warn my daughter, she had hurt her mouth. Beware: if you have sensitivities to dairy or gluten, there are very few options for you.

All in all, if food is not important to you, then Eurostars will exceed your expectations! Room Quality - Price Front desk / Reception Beaches Location Bathroom Staff / Crew Cleanliness Business Services Food / Restaurants

The strong points The beach/water and beach service, and the pools and pool service.

The weak points The food.
