February is here and that means that love is in the air. As Valentine’s Day quickly approaches, many Canadians have romance on their minds. So, do you ever wonder just what kind of impact vacationing has on Canadians in terms of love, lust and romance?

Do Canadians flirt more when they travel? Are they more in the mood to make love while away? Have they or would they join the Mile High Club? In the name of love and curiosity, the team at Cheapflights.ca decided to get to the bottom of this debate through a survey of Canadian Romance on the Road. Flirting with romance Cheapflights.ca’s latest survey of 1,002 Canadians found that holiday hanky panky is on the mind for many of us, especially men. Starting with the basics, 29 percent of Canadians surveyed said they tend to flirt more when they travel. Among men, that number jumps to 37 percent compared to 21 percent for women. Digging deeper, it turns out that 29 percent of men said they flirt with fellow travellers versus 14 percent of women. Additionally, 21 percent of men regularly flirt with flight crew and hotel staff versus only 8 percent of women. And, 21 percent of men have pretended to be single when flirting on a trip versus 9 percent of women. The age group that answered “yes” the most to all our flirting questions were those between 25-35 years old. Dating and “hooking up” on the road When it comes to making a romantic connection, over half (51 percent) of the respondents said they would date someone they met on a trip, while 44 percent said they would “hook up” with someone they met while travelling. Men were particularly open to dating someone they met travelling (60 percent) while 43 percent of the women said they would do so. Across the board, 20 percent have actually dated someone they met on a trip (26 percent of men and 15 percent of women). And the same holds true for “hooking up”, as 57 percent of men said they were willing compared to 30 percent of women. As for actually hooking up? Among the men, 30 percent actually had. For women, that number was 16 percent. The under 25 crowd is the most interested in dating someone they met on a trip (66 percent said they would), yet it was also the group with the least experience doing so (15 percent). And, finally, when asked if a vacation fling has ever turned into a real romance, 13 percent of respondents replied yes (17 percent for men and 8 percent for women). Canadian members of the Mile High Club…yes, even grandma and grandpa! As for membership in the infamous Mile High Club, 28 percent said they would join and 5 percent reported they actually had. When we break down the data between men and women, men (41 percent) were more than twice as likely as women (16 percent) to be willing to join the club. Men also make up the majority of members (8 percent versus 2 percent of women). The 25-35 age group were on top in both respects as 41 percent said they would join the club and 8 percent already had. And passion is still alive in the over 65 age group. Of the respondents in this age bracket, 10 percent said they would join and close to 1.5 percent were, in fact, already members. Let’s talk about sex When asked whether they feel more in the mood to make love when travelling, close to half of respondents (47 percent) said “yes”. Men (54 percent) were more likely to have an increased vacation libido than women (41 percent). Overall, 29 percent of those surveyed admitted they have made love somewhere unconventional on a trip with 35 percent of men and 24 percent of the women reporting they had done so. Additionally, 24 percent have packed or purchased something to spice up their vacation romance (26 percent for men and 21 percent for women). The 25-35 age group ranked highest when it came to feeling more in the mood to make love when travelling (61 percent). However, it was 36-50 year olds who had the most adventures to report. They led the pack in making love somewhere unconventional (35 percent) but it was the youngsters, those under 25, that looked to spruce up the romance as they ranked the highest of those packing or purchasing something to spice up their vacation romance (29 percent).
