GREEN POWER TO Carnival CRUISE SHIPS

Carnival Corporation is planning to introduce the world's first fully LNG-powered cruise ships. In 2019 AIDA Cruises and Costa Cruises will launch ships with the ability to be powered by liquefied natural gas in port as well as at sea. The ships will sail in Northwest Europe and the Mediterranean.

LNG will be supplied by Shell, taking advantage of their infrastructure in cruise ports. The ships will be equipped with dual-fuel engines and are expected to reduce emissions as well as produce more efficient sea vessels.Tom Strang, senior vice president of maritime affairs for Carnival Corporation said "We are proud to be on the forefront of advancing LNG as a fuel source for the cruise industry and creating an entirely new model for powering next-generation cruise ships."In 2015 AIDAsol becoming the first cruise ship in the world to be supplied with power by an LNG hybrid barge, receiving eight hours of supply during layovers. This spring, AIDA Cruises announced a deal with Shell to supply its AIDAprima ship with LNG to power the vessel while in port - an industry first.
