For the past four years Bahamas Waste Management has had assistance powering their fleet of vehicles in Nassau from the most unlikely source. Disney Cruise Line has donated used cooking oil which is converted into biodiesel fuel, a nontoxic, biodegradable fuel that reduces engine emissions.

Around 25 of Bahamas Waste Management vehicles are powered by biodiesel and the plan is to include coverage for the whole fleet. “We value our partnership with Bahamas Waste and the opportunity to contribute to improving the environment here in the Bahamas,” said Barda Kosovrasti, Disney Cruise Line Manager of Corporate Citizenship. “Bahamas Waste’s efforts align with Disney Cruise Line’s commitment to minimize waste and our impact on the environment.” On a weekly basis, more than 1,000 gallons of used cooking oil are offloaded Disney Cruise Line ships and recycled in ports of call around the world.
