CRUISING WITH THE MEDICS For dialysis patients

Dialysis at Sea Cruises is a company offering patients with kidney failure “Freedom” with medical teams to provide dialysis treatment on select cruise sailings with Royal Caribbean, Holland America and Celebrity Cruise Lines.

Hemodialysis patients have undergone renal failure and must be dialyzed with an artificial kidney to rid the body of fluids and toxins.
They can now plan cruises where a renal care specialist team consisting of a Nephrologist, dialysis nurses and certified technicians are scheduled to be on-board.
Their website says, "Our medical staff is English speaking and recruited primarily from North America. Twenty-four hours a day, patients can 'beep' our shipboard dialysis staff, and if necessary, they can reach our stateside medical support personnel around the clock. We use the new generation Fresenius 2008K for your dialysis treatment. It provides maximum flexibility for your specific prescription with excellent performance and reliability."
People with kidney failure require dialysis up to three times a week and this schedule would otherwise preclude them from travelling.
Those who book with Dialysis at Sea Cruises can expect an orientation meeting where they will meet other dialysis passengers as well as the medical team on board.
The dining staff will be made aware of passengers’ dietary needs.
Payments are based on a flat rate determined by the length of the trip.
Some insurance companies might pay a portion of the fees.
