WEDDING CRASHER

A couple committing to “better or worse” saw more of the worst in a disastrous sailing in the Boston Harbour last weekend. It was an evening of dinner, dancing and a rescue mission from the Coast Guard. The groom showed good humour when he stated, “We’re going to love each other no matter what — it’s still a hell of a day.”

The sailing was last Saturday to celebrate the nuptials of Jamie and Fernanda Stern when the ship ran aground off George’s Island in Boston Harbour.

Wedding guests reported hearing a grinding sound as the ship encountered gravel.

The Coast Guard reported that no one was injured and passengers were transferred to another vessel to be returned to shore.

The Majesty, although stuck was not damaged and it was decided that they would use the tide to help bring her in.

After the Coast Guard completes its investigation, Alison Nolan, principal and general manager of Boston Harbor Cruises, said the company will do its own, and suggested that the cause would likely be “operator error and an error in navigation.”

The captain was not identified, but described as having 27 years of experience. He was immediately given tests to determine his drug and alcohol levels and has been suspended. Further disciplinary action will be determined once the investigations have been completed.

Nolan said that a full refund to the family would be forthcoming and stated, “It’s terribly unfortunate, of course, that not only did this happen, but it happened on such a special day. We’re going to work here internally to determine some additional steps for the family.”

The three-hour tour became a seven-hour rescue.
