The Caribbean Princess TEMPORARY TIME OUT

Posted on 08/12/2016 | About Dublin, Ireland

The Caribbean Princess en-route from Cobh in Cork to Dublin suffered a propulsion failure last week, resulting in engine failure. With almost 4,500 passengers on board, the cruise ship was adrift for nine hours in the Irish Sea.

The Irish Coast Guard’s Marine Rescue Co-ordination Centre monitored the incident that took place August 3 and sent a Dublin-based Sikorsky helicopter to fly over the vessel, where it recovered power, skipped the call to Dublin and continued on to Belfast.
Caribbean Princess released a statement identifying that the ship had electrical power and was operating full services, including air conditioning, galleys, lighting as well as toilets.
They said that guests and crew were safe and secure.
The cruise line reported it was a technical glitch and guests who booked shore excursions through Princess would automatically receive a refund to their shipboard hotel folio.
There are 3,306 guests and 1.158 crewmembers on the ship sailing on a 12 day cruise that ends today.
