Delta Air Lines has defended one of its pilots who appeared to hit a female passenger last week, after a video of the incident was released by TMZ. The video recording showed three women arguing and two getting into a scuffle.

The pilot then intervened and can be seen striking one of the women.

Delta said the pilot helped to 'deescalate' the situation which took place April 21 on a jetway at Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson Airport.

"We became aware of this incident and a video last week and immediately removed the pilot from duty while we completed a thorough investigation. Local law enforcement was called to respond at the time of the incident. The pilot has since been returned to work as our investigation found that his actions deescalated an altercation between passengers on the jetway floor during deplaning."

No arrests were made at the time and none of the passengers intend to press charges.
