An armed man refusing to pay his bill barricaded himself in his hotel room in southern France, prompting jittery authorities to evacuate the hotel. The man was taken into custody Tuesday night after police entered his room.

An official was authorized to speak to the media but not to release his name, as is customary in France. The man had a knife and was overheard making threats Tuesday.
There were unconfirmed reports the man had been seen with a suspicious parcel with wires showing.
Police confirmed they found a knife but no explosives.
The incident in Bollene, 45 kilometres (28 miles) north of Avignon, comes as France has been shaken by its third major attack in 18 months.
