Hong Kong Airlines is set to make its North American debut with the launch of its non-stop daily service between Vancouver and Hong Kong on June 30. To commemorate the airline’s entry into the Canadian market, Hong Kong-born martial artist, Hollywood actor and world traveller Jackie Chan will be aboard the inaugural flight from Hong Kong to Vancouver on June 30, serving as a Hong Kong Airlines ambassador. On July 2, Chan will also be at YVR to see-off passengers outbound for Hong Kong.
“With nearly 400,000 Canadians traveling to Hong Kong each year, we are thrilled to be able to offer direct access to the world-class city that is Hong Kong,” said George Liu, chief marketing officer of Hong Kong Airlines.
Craig Richmond, president & CEO of Vancouver Airport Authority said the partnership with Hong Kong Airlines “will help YVR achieve its vision of connecting Asia to the Americas and will present a wide range of options to passengers and businesses, while spurring economic growth and trade.”
A trusted and well-known figure among North American consumers, Jackie Chan’s role as ambassador will help cultivate a global audience for the airline, starting with Vancouver.
In addition, his accomplishments as a Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF/UNAIDS, a celebrity cabinet member of the American Red Cross, founder of the Jackie Chan Civil Aviation Foundation in China, he will serve the airline’s mutual interest in philanthropic and charitable endeavours.
Hong Kong Airlines has been named the Official International Airline Partner of the Canada 150 at Canada Place celebration taking place in Vancouver on July 1 to commemorate a new connection between the two world-class cities.
The service between Vancouver and Hong Kong will be on an A330-200 aircraft.
