A 2-year-old boy was dragged into a lagoon by an alligator at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort and Spa last night. Hours later a large search team was still looking for the boy, who had been "wading in the water along the lake's edge at the time that the alligator attacked," according to Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings.

The father went into the water to attempt to save the child, but was unsuccessful. He suffered minor scratches on his hand.
The mother also went into the water, trying to find her child.
"The sad reality of it is it's been several hours and we're not likely going to recover a live body," Demings said.
The incident happened during a popular movie night at the luxury hotel, which is owned by Disney. The child was reportedly wading in about a foot of water when the alligator attacked.
The hotel overlooks the manmade Seven Seas Lagoon which is popular for fishing and boat trips.
Demings said no reports of nuisance alligators have come in the region recently. He said the alligator is between 4 and 7 feet long, the exact size is unsure.
According to local reports, there are no signs warning of alligators in the lagoon but there are signs warning against swimming in it.
Disney issued a statement saying it was devastated by the tragic incident.
"Our thoughts are with the family, and we are helping the family and doing everything we can to assist law enforcement," it said.
The family of four – the parents, the boy and his 4-year-old sister are from Nebraska.
